Zimbabwean martial arts legend Sensei Mugove Muhambi, a veteran karateka who represented the country on numerous international platforms, has died following a fatal road traffic accident along Borrowdale Road in Harare early this morning.

The tragic incident occurred near Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks and has been confirmed by the Zimbabwe National Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, which described Muhambi's passing as a profound loss to the local sporting fraternity.

Eyewitnesses reported that the crash was caused by a speeding Honda Fit that veered into the oncoming lane and collided with a Toyota GD6.

"This happened in the morning, and I think the accident was caused by that Honda Fit which went into the oncoming lane where the GD6 was," an eyewitness at the scene recounted.

The Convergence Community Emergency Response Team also attended the scene. Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Mr Webster Jaricha urged motorists to exercise caution and observe traffic regulations to avoid such tragedies.

"As the Emergency Response Team of Zimbabwe, we want to urge those who are driving to drive carefully to prevent accidents," Jaricha said.

National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and reiterated the importance of road safety, particularly during the early hours when many motorists are commuting.

"This is a call for all the relevant stakeholders to further exercise caution when driving, especially in the early hours of any day. It is a clear reminder that driving carefully is essential to saving lives," said Commissioner Nyathi.

The government, in collaboration with private sector partners, continues to intensify road safety awareness campaigns amid growing concerns over increasing road traffic accidents, most of which are attributed to human error.

Sensei Muhambi was widely respected for his contributions to martial arts in Zimbabwe and beyond. His untimely death has sent shockwaves across the sports community, with tributes pouring in from fellow athletes, students, and fans.
