The construction of the highly anticipated Trabablas Interchange is now complete, with contractors applying the final touches before the official commissioning by President Emmerson Mnangagwa later this month.

The state-of-the-art infrastructure, located at the former Mbudzi roundabout, is one of the Second Republic's flagship projects under its ambitious infrastructure development programme. Once a notorious traffic bottleneck, the site has now been transformed into a modern interchange that promises to revolutionise traffic flow along the busy Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway and provide critical connectivity for several surrounding suburbs.

The project, undertaken by Fossils Contracting, involved the construction of 15 bridges and employed more than 1,800 workers at its peak. Engineers confirmed that the bridges are virtually complete, with only minor works remaining.

"Fifteen bridges are 99.8 percent complete and overall works are now more than 95 percent done," said Engineer Kudakwashe Maguta of Fossils Contracting. "We are working around the clock to ensure we complete this project before the end of the month."

The interchange has been hailed as a transformative solution to chronic congestion at the former Mbudzi roundabout, a critical junction connecting southern Zimbabwe to the capital.

"We are impressed by the standards of work by the contractor," said Trabablas resident engineer Emmanuel Dube. "As you know, this was once an intersection known for severe traffic congestion. Now that this great interchange is complete, congestion will be a thing of the past."

The completion of the Trabablas Interchange is seen as a major milestone for local contractors and a testament to the government's commitment to modernising Zimbabwe's road network. The project aligns with President Mnangagwa's development vision under the mantra Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo – a country is built by its own citizens.

The official commissioning ceremony by President Mnangagwa is expected to draw government officials, community leaders, and stakeholders from across the transport and infrastructure sectors.
