A 31-year-old man was left stunned and without his car after a brief encounter with an unidentified woman led to the theft of his white Mercedes Benz C200 at a popular restaurant in central Harare on Friday, 17 May 2025.
The incident occurred at a restaurant located at the corner of Josiah Chinamano Avenue and Mazowe Street, where the man was reportedly enjoying a casual game of pool with the woman he had just met.
According to reports, while the two were playing, the woman is alleged to have discreetly stolen the car keys from the man's jacket, which had been placed nearby. Without raising suspicion, she quietly left the establishment, located the vehicle outside, and used the remote key to unlock it.
Eyewitnesses said the woman then sped off in the direction of Mazowe Street, disappearing into traffic before the man could react.
The incident was promptly reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, who have since launched a full investigation into the motor vehicle theft. In a statement posted on social media, Zimbabwe police confirmed the incident and urged anyone with information that could assist in identifying the suspect or locating the stolen vehicle to come forward.
Cases involving social manipulation and theft during casual encounters in urban settings have been on the rise, with police warning the public to remain cautious when interacting with strangers in public spaces.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the white Mercedes Benz C200 remains missing.
