A peaceful evening drive turned fatal for a young couple from Bulawayo after their vehicle crashed near Insukamini Primary School on Nketa Drive, leaving both dead at the scene.

The victims, 35-year-old Bekithemba Tshuma of Entumbane and his 25-year-old wife, Lorrine Tsvangirai, lost their lives instantly when the white Toyota Corolla they were traveling in veered off the road and collided violently with a tree.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, confirmed the tragic accident.

"The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident along Nketa Drive, near Insukamini Primary School in Bulawayo, where a couple died after the driver, the husband, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a roadside tree," she said.

Both victims sustained severe head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies have since been taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary.

The news has sent shockwaves through the community, with social media flooded with condolences and expressions of grief over the sudden loss.

Inspector Msebele appealed to motorists to exercise heightened caution, particularly when driving at night and on residential roads.

"Drivers must stay alert and adhere strictly to speed limits. Lives are being lost unnecessarily," she urged.

The tragic incident has cast a somber mood over Entumbane and renewed calls for increased road safety awareness throughout Bulawayo.
