Six people were seriously injured early this morning when a Honda Fit vehicle collided with a goods train at the Chiremba Road rail crossing in Harare.

According to preliminary reports, the driver of the vehicle attempted to beat the oncoming train, resulting in a violent collision that left all six occupants of the car injured.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, and the injured were rushed to hospital. Medical personnel later confirmed that all six were in stable condition.

In a statement following the incident, the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) reiterated its warning to motorists about the dangers of disregarding safety protocols at railway level crossings.

"We continue to urge motorists to exercise extreme caution when approaching level crossings and to stop if there is a train coming," the NRZ said.

This latest accident adds to a growing list of similar incidents in recent years. Train-vehicle collisions at rail crossings remain a serious concern across the country, often attributed to driver negligence and the absence of adequate warning systems at some crossing points.

Authorities have again called for increased public awareness and stricter enforcement of road and rail safety regulations to prevent further tragedies.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is currently underway.
