A truck driver and his passenger jumped out of their vehicle moments before it rammed into a passing train in Kadoma on Wednesday night causing a derailment, the National Railways of Zimbabwe said.
It was the third collision between a train and vehicle across the country inside two weeks.
The NRZ said the driver appeared to have lost control of his lorry which was carrying sand as it approached a rail and road level crossing at around 11.50PM.
"The driver and his passenger jumped off the truck and left it to ram into the last two wagons of the passing train. The two men were rushed to hospital where they were treated and discharged," the NRZ said in a statement.
"We keep urging drivers to exercise extreme caution when approaching all level crossings and avoid using defective vehicles."
On May 21, a Honda Fit vehicle with six male passengers onboard was hit by a train at around 1AM while crossing a railway line on Chiremba Road in Harare. The six escaped with moderate injuries.
On May 13, a police Mahindra vehicle was badly damaged in Gweru after the driver failed to give way to an oncoming train. The two police officers in the vehicle survived with minor injuries.
