Fisherman's remains found inside a crocodile
5 hrs ago | Views

Tragedy struck the Chikuyu fishing camp at Lake Kariba last week after a local fisherman, Jethro Moyo, was fatally attacked by a crocodile. The grisly aftermath revealed the horrifying extent of the incident when human body parts, including lungs, liver, part of the intestines, and a shoe believed to belong to Moyo, were found inside the reptile's stomach.
The attack occurred on Wednesday evening around 7 PM. According to Trust Munkuli, a colleague of the deceased, the two were preparing fish for supper when he heard a chilling scream. Rushing to the scene, Munkuli said he was met with a terrifying sight - a group of crocodiles thrashing in the water.
Despite an urgent search effort by the local community using a small boat, no trace of Moyo could be found that night.
The following day, rangers from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) responded to the incident and shot one of the crocodiles suspected to be involved in the attack. To the horror of those present, the crocodile began vomiting human flesh shortly after being killed. Rangers retrieved the remains, which were later taken to Binga Mortuary for safekeeping.
However, the incident has highlighted long-standing concerns about the state of public services in the area. Relatives of the deceased expressed frustration over the non-functional condition of Binga Mortuary, which they say has not been operating properly for years.
As the victim’s family awaited the repatriation of the remains to their hometown of Jotsholo for burial, a local well-wisher, Richard Muleya of Manyanga area, offered them temporary shelter.
"I felt pity after hearing them say they would stay at a public transport area," Muleya said. "So I decided to take them to my place until the day they remove the remains for burial."
Local leaders and residents have since renewed calls for improved mortuary services and enhanced safety measures around the crocodile-infested waters of Lake Kariba.
