The body of 33-year-old Shephard Mashava, who had been reported missing from Chinyudze Business Centre in Makoni, was discovered in a river on May 23, 2025.
According to Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, Mashava's body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, floating face-up at the confluence of the Mwarazi and Chinyika rivers.
The grim discovery was made by Abraham Makavandingwa, who was herding cattle nearby. The body was later positively identified by Mashava's brother, Shingirirai Mashava.
"Mashava had been reported missing on May 17 after he was assaulted. His death is believed to be linked to that incident," said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka. He added that James Gorge is currently in police custody in connection with the case.
