A senior intelligence officer has come under fire after allegedly obstructing a sanctioned community engagement tournament organized by Chiredzi Central MP Ropafadzo Makumire at Chishamiso Stadium, despite the event having received prior clearance from both the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe (THZ).
The tournament, which included soccer, netball, and other community activities, was aimed at fostering dialogue between the legislator and his constituents. However, the event was thrown into disarray when Central Intelligence Officer Tinashe Muyambo allegedly disrupted proceedings by parking his black Toyota GD6 at the centre of the stadium and openly drinking beer with friends for nearly three hours.
Confirming the incident, MP Makumire said the disruption caused significant fear and discomfort among attendees.
"The situation instilled fear within the community due to this individual's presence. Many residents were understandably upset and felt the need to take action, but we intervened to maintain peace," said Makumire.
He thanked both the ZRP and officials from the President's Office for responding swiftly to remove the officer, stressing that such behaviour is unbecoming of a public servant and must be addressed to restore community trust.
"We hold the office of the President to a higher standard and do not accept such behaviour. This situation must be addressed to restore confidence in our community," he added.
The event had been officially sanctioned to run from 0900 to 1730 hours, but proceedings were delayed by three hours due to Muyambo's actions, only commencing at 1200 hours.
In a written communication seen by TellZim News, Hippo Valley Community Services Officer Brawl Chikandiwa had granted permission for the meeting to be held at Chishamiso Stadium, with standard guidelines that included notifying the police and ensuring cleanliness.
"I write to inform you that your request has been granted. You are free to use the requested venue; however, you are advised to make arrangements to inform and avail ZRP for peace and security and ensure the highest level of cleanliness during and after use," the letter read.
Sources close to the matter said Muyambo has been a long-time critic of Makumire, having previously been stationed in Chikombedzi before his transfer to Chiredzi. His presence and conduct are now being linked to politically motivated obstruction.
This incident follows reports of unexplained delays in the construction of Melbourne Government Primary School — a project partly funded by Makumire through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) — with allegations pointing to political interference as the cause of stalling progress.
Community leaders and observers have since called for disciplinary action against the officer, urging authorities to ensure public servants remain accountable and refrain from sabotaging development initiatives.
