Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has strongly denied swirling social media claims that he is preparing to launch a new political movement at the end of this month, describing the reports as "sponsored lies" orchestrated by political detractors.

In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Chamisa responded to the growing speculation with a firm rebuttal, urging supporters and the public to ignore what he termed "falsehoods" aimed at creating confusion and distraction.

"Ignore these lies and falsehoods," Chamisa wrote. "Overwhelmed and flooded by calls from anxious, restless and expectant citizens. Disregard these sponsored lies from scared propagandists."

Rumours of a new political outfit have been circulating online in recent days, with flyers and posters purporting to announce the launch of a fresh political initiative under Chamisa's leadership. The flyers have gained traction on various social media platforms, fueling speculation about his next political move.

Chamisa, who resigned from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) presidency in January 2024, has remained tight-lipped about his future political plans. His departure followed what he described as a hostile takeover of the CCC by Zanu-PF-aligned interests. Since then, he has maintained that he has not exited the political arena but was compelled to step away from a compromised party structure.

In his latest message, Chamisa reiterated his vision for a renewed Zimbabwe anchored in values of integrity and compassion.

"A new nation founded on love - Zimbabwe shall be a new and great nation governed by love, truth and justice, not hate, violence, lies, deceit and corruption," he said. "Love is the missing essential! Love is the foundation."

The remarks come amid heightened political tensions and growing public speculation about the future of Zimbabwe's opposition, especially with elections on the distant horizon and a leadership vacuum left by Chamisa's resignation from CCC.

While Chamisa has yet to announce his next political steps, his continued engagement with citizens on social media and public forums suggests that he remains a central figure in the country's political discourse.

Political analysts say the sustained public interest in Chamisa's movements signals both the fragmented state of opposition politics and widespread public yearning for clear leadership alternatives to the ruling Zanu-PF.
