A dark cloud has engulfed Chinyama after a 52-year-old villager was axed to death by his nephew over a goat misunderstanding.
The 21-year-old niece subsequently took his life away after committing the gruesome murder.
According to Mashonaland Central police spokesperson, Inspector Milton Mundembe, Gamuchirai Mvundura (21) fatally axed his uncle, Jestos Tsikire, over a goat misunderstanding.
"I can confirm a murder case in Muzarabani where Mvundura axed his uncle over a goat misunderstanding before taking his life by hanging himself a day later," Mundembe said.
Allegations are that Tsikire found one of his missing goat tied to a tree at Mvundura's homestead and quizzed him on where he got the goat.
Mvundura said he had bought the goat from the next village and a serious altercation ensued.
Tsikire left Mvundura's homestead, and after about 15 minutes, Mvundura picked up an axe and followed him.
In a fit of rage, he fatally axed his uncle and fled from the scene.
A day later, he decided to take his life away by hanging.
The body of Mvundura was discovered hanging from a tree by Alice Makhosa and Linda Zano, who were going to Tsikire's funeral.
A police report was filed, and the body was taken to Mvurwi hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Police warned people to shun violence.
