A 52-year-old man from Harare has been arrested for allegedly swindling a client of over US$16,000 under the pretext of importing a vehicle, police have confirmed.

The suspect, identified as Isaac Dhliwayo, was taken into custody on June 5, 2025, after a complaint was filed regarding a botched vehicle import deal.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest, saying Dhliwayo is facing fraud charges.

"On June 5, 2025, police in Harare arrested Isaac Dhliwayo (52) in connection with a case of fraud. The suspect allegedly misrepresented to the complainant that he would facilitate the importation of a 2016 Honda Vezel valued at US$14,000," said Commissioner Nyathi.

According to the police, the complainant paid Dhliwayo a total of US$16,130 in cash, between November 2024 and April 2025, to cover the cost of the vehicle, importation fees, and other expenses.

However, instead of delivering the vehicle as agreed, Dhliwayo allegedly converted the funds to his personal use, prompting the victim to report the matter to authorities.

The accused is expected to appear in court soon to face fraud charges.

Police have urged members of the public to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of individuals or companies offering vehicle import services to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
