HARARE - An investigation has uncovered allegations of corruption involving South African mining companies Implats and Sibanye-Stillwater and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa's inner circle.
According to leaked financial records and internal documents, Mimosa Mining Company, a joint venture between the two firms, has been accused of funnelling millions of dollars to shadowy companies tied to Mnangagwa.
The payments, reportedly disguised as service fees, allegedly amount to at least $7 million per year.
Mimosa has reportedly laid off nearly 2,000 permanent employees since 2014, replacing them with contractors linked to ZANU-PF elites.
One of the biggest beneficiaries is Boltrec Engineering, owned by Mnangagwa's son, which allegedly earns $4 million annually.
The allegations suggest a vast corruption network propping up Zimbabwe's authoritarian regime.
Further investigation is needed to verify these claims and determine the extent of any wrongdoing.
