A drink-driver discovered slumped behind the wheel after pulling over on the busy A14 near Cambridge has been banned from driving for more than three years. George Msipa, 37, was found by police with part of his Mercedes protruding into the dual carriageway just outside the city.
Body-cam footage from the incident on the morning of June 1 shows an officer knocking on Msipa's car window and asking why he was parked on the side of the highway. Initially confused, Msipa eventually stepped out of the vehicle to take a breath test at the roadside near Stow cum Quy in Cambridgeshire.
The test revealed that Msipa’s blood alcohol level was 93 micrograms, more than twice the legal limit. When informed he was under arrest, Msipa asked officers, "But what have I been driving?" reflecting his state of confusion.
At Ipswich Magistrates' Court the following day, Msipa pleaded guilty to drink driving. He was disqualified from driving for 40 months and fined £500.
PC Jack Taylor of Cambridgeshire Police condemned the act, saying, "Getting behind the wheel drunk and then deciding to park at the side of a major road was extremely dangerous and put himself, other drivers, and officers at risk."
