A quarrel over a plate of isitshwala, Zimbabwe's beloved staple food, turned fatal when 19-year-old Allen Shambare was beaten to death by two rival men at Abedine farm compound.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the grim incident, which occurred on June 21, 2025.
"Police in Mvurwi have arrested Reason Shadrecka, 36, in connection with the murder of Allen Shambare," said Nyathi.
According to the police, Shadrecka teamed up with another suspect, Biggie Nduzani - who remains at large - to assault Shambare using wooden logs and a stone following an argument over a plate of isitshwala.
"The victim sustained severe injuries all over his body and died on the spot," Nyathi added.
Authorities are continuing efforts to apprehend Nduzani as investigations proceed. The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting how seemingly minor disputes can escalate into deadly violence.
