A 39-year-old woman from Eswatini, Precious Luphoko, has been convicted by the Gwanda Magistrates' Court for unlawfully entering and remaining in Zimbabwe without proper documentation.
National Prosecution Authority in a report noted that on June 14, the offender was reportedly smuggled into Zimbabwe through the Beitbridge border post by her unnamed boyfriend, believed to be a truck driver.
"After crossing illegally, she was abandoned at Collen Bawn bus terminus. With nowhere to go, she sought refuge at a good samaritan's home in Coleen Bawn," NPA reported.
"On June 15, the good samaritan took her to the police for assistance, leading to her arrest after it was confirmed she had novalid travel documents or permits to be in the country."
NPA said she was ordered to pay a fine of US$150, and in default, she will serve 1 month imprisonment.
She was also ordered to be deported back to Eswatini.
