Dynamos, coach summoned over match chaos

Embattled Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants Dynamos FC and their outspoken head coach Saul Chaminuka have been summoned to appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee following the dramatic abandonment of their league clash against FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium on Sunday.

The match, which was finely poised at 1-1 in the 75th minute, spiralled into controversy after referee Qedisani Dirwai awarded a highly disputed penalty to FC Platinum. Dirwai judged that Dynamos captain Emmanuel Jalai had fouled Oscar Bhebhe inside the box, a decision that incensed the Dynamos camp and ultimately led to the match being abandoned after prolonged protests.

In a statement issued on Monday, the PSL confirmed disciplinary proceedings against both the club and Chaminuka.

"Dynamos FC is being charged with causing the abandonment of a match and ungentlemanly conduct by the team's technical officials," the statement read.

"Dynamos FC head coach Saul Chaminuka has also been summoned to appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee. His charges include disturbing the normal proceedings of a match, causing abandonment, ungentlemanly conduct, and issuing reckless statements to the media likely to bring the game, sponsors, the League, ZIFA, CAF or FIFA into disrepute."

The hearings are scheduled for Tuesday, 8 July 2025, at the PSL offices at 1730hrs.

In a heated post-match interview, Chaminuka unleashed a scathing attack on match officials, accusing referees of bias and undermining the integrity of the league.

"Referees are cheating, and there is no way that we can continue playing week in and week out when they keep giving away matches like that. They are not fair at all," fumed Chaminuka. "Coaches are fired because of how they [referees] are handling matches, and they just go scot-free. At least the match commissioner has something to write about. Let's see what the match commissioner is going to say about this game."

The match had started brightly for Dynamos, who grabbed an early lead in the fourth minute through a powerful header from Vusa Ngwenya. FC Platinum responded early in the second half, equalising through Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya after Dynamos skipper Shadreck Nyahwa failed to clear his lines.

The incident at Mandava further compounds Dynamos' woes in what has been a disastrous campaign for the Harare giants. With just two wins from 17 matches, the Glamour Boys sit third from bottom on the log with 14 points, flirting with relegation. The poor run of form has already claimed the job of former head coach Lloyd Chigowe, who was replaced by Chaminuka earlier in the season.

The PSL now faces the daunting task of adjudicating a case that could have lasting implications for the league's integrity, the credibility of match officials, and the future of one of Zimbabwe's most storied football institutions.
