The City of Bulawayo's Town Clerk, Mr. Christopher Dube, has been appointed as the new chairperson of the National Social Security Authority (NSSA), following the government's dissolution of the previous board.
Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Edgar Moyo, announced the new NSSA board on the authority's official website. The revamped board is chaired by Mr. Dube and includes Ms. Josephine Takundwa, Mr. Innocent Chinyama, Mr. Gilbert Takavarasha, Ms. Florence Mucha Taruvinga, Ms. Ruth Sibanda, Mrs. Mercy Faith Matongera, Mr. David Dzatsunga, and Mr. Walter Mupandawana.
Mr. Dube replaces businessman Dr. Emmanuel Fundira, who was appointed NSSA chairperson in May 2023 and was expected to serve a four-year term until May 2027. Dr. Fundira received a termination letter as part of efforts to reposition NSSA in line with a newly approved strategic thrust.
The newly appointed board features a diverse group of representatives from various sectors. Mr. Innocent Chinyama, CEO of Zimnat Asset Management, and Mr. Gilbert Takavarasha, Director of Human Resources and Administration at Dairibord Holdings, bring corporate expertise.
Labour interests are represented by Ms. Florence Taruvinga, President of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU); Mr. David Dzatsunga of the Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions (ZICOSTU); and Ms. Ruth Sibanda from the Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions (ZFTU).
The private sector is represented by Ms. Josephine Takundwa, Vice President of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC). Government representation comes from Mrs. Mercy Faith Matongera of the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare and Mr. Walter Mupandawana, Head of Human Capital Development at the Public Service Commission.
The new board takes office amid a critical period for NSSA as it seeks to rebuild public trust, enhance its investment portfolio, and strengthen its role in supporting Zimbabwe's economic growth.
