Lover bashed after break-up chat goes south
5 hrs ago | Views

A "peaceful conversation" between former lovers took a horrifying turn when a Matopo man allegedly turned violent, brutally attacking his ex-girlfriend with a metal bar after a heated argument.
Kelvin Ndlovu (32), from Chapo in Matopo, appeared before Western Commonage Magistrate Archie Wochiwunga this week facing attempted murder charges for the vicious assault on Nkanyiso Sibanda (28).
Prosecutor Audrey Kufandikanwe told the court that the shocking incident occurred on May 5, 2025, around 8PM at Sibanda's residence in Pumula South.
According to the State, Ndlovu had gone to Sibanda's home under the pretext of "talking things through" regarding their past relationship.
The conversation began calmly, with the pair reportedly exchanging pleasantries. But it quickly spiralled into a shouting match.
In a sudden burst of rage, Ndlovu allegedly grabbed a metal bar and struck Sibanda twice at the back of the head, causing a deep, bleeding gash and rendering her unconscious.
Neighbours told investigators they heard loud arguing, a disturbing thud, then eerie silence before rushing to the scene.
Sibanda was found in a pool of blood and rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Doctors are still assessing the full extent of her injuries.
The court has postponed the matter to July 2, 2025, awaiting a medical report that may influence whether the charge will be upgraded based on the severity of Sibanda's condition.
What was supposed to be a conversation of closure ended in bloodshed - with Ndlovu now facing the possibility of a long prison sentence.
"This is not just a case of domestic violence. It's a potential attempted murder. The accused used a deadly weapon and targeted the victim's head - this could have been fatal," said one court official.
For now, Ndlovu remains in custody, and the community of Pumula South remains shaken by the brutal reminder that love gone wrong can sometimes become deadly.
As the case develops, many are calling for stronger awareness and support systems for victims of domestic abuse and failed relationships turned violent.
