Chamisa's sneak back to politics sparks more infighting

4 hrs ago | Views
Nelson Chamisa's sneak back to politics has sparked more infighting than inspiration. It feels less like a political revival and more like a kindergarten drama play. Instead of healing the fractured opposition, he has reignited grudges and declared war on anyone who did not resign alongside him to turn the CCC into a one-man stage show. He plays the star, the director, and, quite possibly, the treasurer, too. Allegedly.

Charlton Hwende is now threatening to open the vault of secrets. According to him, thousands of election agents in 2023 were paid a jaw-dropping twenty to twenty-five US dollars each, while party elites allegedly used the funds to purchase luxury cars and build mansions. It has been two years, and many agents are still waiting to be paid. If loyalty is a currency in this party, it clearly has no exchange rate outside the inner circle.

Then there is the infamous bulletproof car fund. The money was raised. The car? Nowhere in sight. Chamisa's response? Ask the GoFundMe organisers. Of course. When things go missing, it is never his fault. It is the Western powers. Or a WhatsApp group admin. Or perhaps the dog ate the invoice.

This so-called new order seems to involve purging everyone who stayed behind and dared to keep the ship afloat. Thokozani Khupe, Sengezo Tshabangu, Prince Dubeko Sibanda, and Hwende have all been marked as enemies of the cause. Hwende's biggest offence appears to be suggesting that some people pocketed money meant for over forty-four thousand agents and spent it on champagne and chandeliers. How very inconvenient.

Let us not forget Gift Ostalos Siziva. He is known in the CCC as Chamisa's golden boy. In Bulawayo, he is accused of diverting funds and fuel meant for agents to support his personal lifestyle. Meanwhile, Surrender Kapoikulu, the MP for Bulawayo Central, had to dip into his own business to keep the campaign running. His private healthcare clinic nearly collapsed. His thanks? He is now one of the many being lined up for removal following Chamisa's grand comeback. Loyalty clearly comes with a penalty.

To tighten the shield around Ostalos, Chamisa has appointed Obert Manduna to handle his Bulawayo reentry. Meanwhile, Ostalos is reportedly preparing for a trip to Europe where he will once again target the diaspora community with promises of mobilising support. Translation? A new city and the same old scam.

For those who still remember, this is the same Nelson Chamisa who lost to Douglas Mwonzora during the MDC-T era in the contest for Secretary General. He also oversaw the worst electoral defeat to ZANUPF while serving as Organising Secretary. And when the CCC began to unravel, he disappeared without warning and left others to mop up the chaos.

Chamisa is not returning to save the opposition. He is returning to secure power for himself. If history is anything to go by, he will not hesitate to burn the house down just to be the one standing in the ashes holding a matchbox.
