Government says there will be no further renewal of retail licenses that were issued to foreigners in line with the country's indigenisation and economic empowerment programme.
Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment Minister, Saviour Kasukuwere said his Ministry will engage local authorities on the policy, adding that no foreigner will have their retail licences renewed.
There has been concern over the disregarding of the country's indigenisation policy's stipulations when it comes to the retail sector with local authorities licensing foreigners in a sector that is reserved specifically for Zimbabweans.
Meanwhile, a local mobile operator has handed over 350 cell phones to junior parliamentarians in support of the ongoing initiatives to promote dialogue and participation of children and young people on issues that affect their lives.
The handover ceremony hosted by the Zimbabwe Youth Council was attended by Minister Kasukuwere; Information Technology Minister, Mr Nelson Chamisa; UNICEF country representative, Dr Peter Salama; Econet CEO, Mr Douglas Mboweni and Junior President, Anesu Rangwani.
