Bata Zimbabwe wins big export

Zimbabwe's biggest shoe maker said Tuesday it had won a contract to supply two million school shoes to Malawi, South Africa and Zambia. Bata company managing director Luis Pinto said the firm's sister companies in the three countries had placed the huge order for the school shoes.
He did not, however, disclose the value of the contract, only saying it was a multi-million dollar deal.
'Our sister companies from Malawi, South Africa and Zambia have come in by giving us orders where we will export about two million school shoes to these countries,' he said.
The contract is a huge relief for the Gweru based company and the country as the company faced imminent closure due to a depressed local market still recovering from a decade of political and economic upheaval.
