Air Zimbabwe is set to resume domestic flights today. The airline suspended its domestic flights in January this year after an aircraft servicing the routes developed mechanical faults.
Air Zimbabwe acting chief executive officer Innocent Mavhunga told NewsDay yesterday that the airline would offer limited service beginning today.
Yes, we are resuming our domestic flights tomorrow (today) and we will be flying three times a week, that is Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, said Mavhunga.
We will be flying three times between Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. We will gradually increase flights as the market picks up.
Mavhunga expressed optimism about the airlines future, saying they had discussed salary issues with staff who have been on protracted disputes with management.
We hope this time we will not have any problems as we are in the process of finalising the issue of the salaries with our staff members, Mavhunga said.
Last week, the airline temporarily resumed local flights between Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls to cater for the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.
The airline is saddled with an estimated debt of $149 million, $30 million of which is owed to foreign institutions.
The national carrier also owes its employees salary and allowances arrears for nearly a year, among a host of other issues dogging the airline.
