NetOne to go for 4G

Mobile phone operator NetOne has said it has installed 80 third generation (3G) base stations across the country to bolster provision of data services, managing director Mr Reward Kangai has said.
"At least 80 third generation base stations out of the 100 we had earmarked have been installed so far and 250 second generation base stations out of the 350 have been installed to date," he said.
"It is an ongoing programme which should be complete by November."
Mr Kangai said efforts to go for fourth generation (4G) were at an advanced stage as application for funding had since been submitted.
"I am not in a position to reveal where application was directed to but all I can say is submissions were made and the application for funding was done by the parent ministry," he said.
The new base stations were set up in Masvingo, Hanyanya in Bikita, Zvishavane, Ruwa, Chitungwiza and parts of Harare including Mbare, Kuwadzana, Mabvuku, Tafara, Glen View, Greendale and Graniteside.
NetOne, with the assistance of the government, obtained a $45 million loan from the China-Exim Bank to develop its Bulawayo Mobile Switching Centre which services the Western parts of the country.
