Youth Development, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Minister, Saviour Kasukuwere told parliament the deal struck between his ministry and Brainworks, a consultant firm on indigenisation, was above board.

Mazowe Central MP Shepherd Mushonga (MDC-T) had asked him whether or not the decision to award Brainworks a contract to deal with the Zimbabwe Platinum Mines indigenisation deal was done with the concurrence of the State Procurement Board.
Responding to another question, Kasukuwere said the indigenisation law was irreversible and had transformed the lives of several people.

He was responding to a question from Zvimba East MP, Patrick Zhuwao (Zanu-PF) who wanted him to comment on comments attributed to PM Morgan Tsvangirai that he will reverse the programme in the event that he wins elections expected before or on July 31.

Meanwhile, the National Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Fund has managed to acquire substantive shareholding in a number of major businesses, Kasukuwere has said.

Kasukuwere, who is also Zanu-PF secretary for Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment, said the key objective of the Indigenisation and Economic Programme was to ensure that the majority of Zimbabweans participated in the mainstream economy.

He said the ministry was looking to the fund leveraging these assets with a view to strengthening its empowerment programmes throughout the country as well as ensure its own capitalisation.
