New govt urged to prioritise small-scale miners

The new government has been called upon to prioritise the capacitation of small-scale miners and intensive exploration to ensure increased contribution by the industry to the gross domestic product.
National Miners Association of Zimbabwe chairman Shephard Kapota said there is need to create a conducive operating environment for players in the sector and the capacitation of the small-scale miners.
Miner Malvern Chimutashu said apart from increased investment in the sector there is also need for the new government to prioritise the exploration of the country's mineral wealth.
The Ministry of Mines and Mining Development has initiated the syndicate programme and service centres programme whose objective is to formalise informal mining, empower small-scale miners and to minimise mineral leakages.
