The government says it is engaging stakeholders and various interest groups who will assist in crafting new ways of turning the national airline Air Zimbabwe into a profit making entity.
The initiative also is being taken at a time when government is also seeking strategic partners as it seeks to improve connectivity between Zimbabwe and other countries within the region and beyond.
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Dr Obert Mpofu said government is treating the viability of Air Zimbabwe with urgency and will ensure that all the necessary equipment is acquired before the airline can resume the Harare-London flight which is scheduled for the 15th of next month.
Dr Mpofu said his Ministry is not only reviving Air Zimbabwe, but other parastatals which include the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe in which statutes governing the regulation of the country`s airspace are being looked at before they are upgraded.
Meanwhile, regulations on noise pollution and gas emissions by airlines are set to be changed following the resolutions that came out at the International Civil Aviation Organisation Conference in Canada which was attended by about 200 countries.
Since resuming its flights, Air Zimbabwe has re-introduced the Johannesburg route from Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls with more regional routes set to be re-introduced before the end of the year.
