TELECEL, Zimbabwe's second largest telecoms company, is expected to launch its new mobile money service in a week's time.
Insiders refused to share any information with us because, "the Reserve Bank does not allow us to share info as yet," said a Telecel official.
It's been known for a while now that Telecel is working on a product to compete head on in the market with EcoCash and NetOne's OneWallet.
Information on the internet suggests that Telecel's mobile money service will be called Telecash.
Telecel is busy signing up agents and one agent leaked the Agent Application to a technology news website. The form indicates there's be a bank involved but its not clear yet if this will be a specific bank, some preferred banks or pure mobile money neutrality.
Sometime during the year (2013) when Econet suspended EcoCash payments to Telecel numbers.
