Samsung to set up plant in Zimbabwe

Global technology giant, Samsung on Thursday signed a partnership agreement with a local firm which could eventually result in the establishment of an assembly plant by the South Korean firm in Zimbabwe at a cost of over $3 million.
 
Samsung signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Line Products and Services (LPS) which initially covers marketing and distribution of the Korean company's products and solutions.
 
Samsung S.A Business Leader for Information Technology, Nelo Neves signed the MoU on behalf of the Korean company, while Cleo Mathabire represented LPS.
 
LPS Chairman, Mathabire said the companies were negotiating for the establishment of an assembly plant in Zimbabwe.

Mathabire was upbeat about the prospects this deal presented and emphasised that the deal included other solutions like e-government and solar powered mobile health centres that they expect would improve government systems and service delivery.

Samsung's aggressive foray into Africa is well documented as it is charging across the continent to address markets that other prominent brands are ignoring.

Samsung openned it first official Zimbabwean store in 2011 at the Joina City shopping mall in Harare.
