Society (PSMAS) to call for a special general meeting to dissolve the board as well as pave way for the issuance of an operating licence for 2014.

In a letter dated 10 February 2014, the society has been instructed to publish a notice to all its members by this Wednesday to notify them of the special general meeting.

The Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Paul Chimedza said the two major issues to be discussed at the meeting are the dissolution of the board of directors and the appointment of an interim manager to run the affairs of the society for a stipulated period.

The Acting Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Douglas Mombeshora said the society's operating licence was not renewed at the end of last year after PSMAS failed to submit audited financial statements.

The decision by government to instruct the PSMAS chairman to hold a special general meeting on Friday, which will result in the dissolution of the board, comes after the Ministry of Health and Child Care discovered that the society is in an unsound financial position.

Former PSMAS Chief Executive Officer, Dr Cuthbert Dube was sent on retirement on Monday the 27th of January while the society's board chairperson Mrs Meisie Namasasu was dismissed following revelations of hefty pay packages for management.

The majority of PSMAS subscribers are government workers who say they feel short-changed as they were being turned away by some medical institutions due to the society's failure to pay off its debts.
