The Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Professor Jonathan Moyo, says the newly-appointed ZBC board is expected to end the corporation's tainted past and define a new discourse built on integrity and transparency.

Professor Moyo told the ZBC News that the new board is tasked with giving a new and different direction to the national broadcaster as well as an expectant public.

He said after a painful past, Zimbabweans, who are the major shareholders of the public broadcaster, expect to see a ZBC that will provide an excellent service.

"The public are the major shareholders. They want a departure from a painful past and a new way of doing things at ZBC," he said.

In reference to the chairmanship of the board, the minister said the board must be presided over by an individual of integrity.

He bemoaned the fact that there are many able people in the country who have fallen prey to corruption and soiled their reputations, adding, "we have turned to a Man of God. He is no angel, but he will not disappoint."

The ZBC board was constituted on Monday.

However, Dr Dennis Magaya, who earlier had been appointed board chairman, was replaced just 24 hours after the ministry learnt that he faced serious allegations of corruption at Powertel.

Dr Magaya has since been replaced by Father Gibson Munyoro.

The vacancy created by the promotion of Father Munyoro to the chairmanship has been filled by Mr. Pritchard Zhou.
