NETONE is working on an expansion programme to open more base stations in Matabeleland to reduce network congestion. The move is also meant to grow the market base of the telecommunications company.

In an interview, NetOne public relations officer Rutendo Chabururuka said the opening and launch of the live shop with a live base station at the Zimbabwe International Trade (ZITF) was the first step towards achieving their objective.

"The launch and opening of the monumental base station structure at the ZITF is the first step towards achieving our goal and we are yet to open more base stations in different areas of Matabeleland to ensure that our customers have access to our services," he said.

He said the project will be rolled out soon to ensure efficiency, reliability and consistence in providing services to different customers in different areas.

Chabururuka said they have invested in Bulawayo and Matabeleland as a whole because they have confidence in the region and therefore they want to give assurance to the market that they are here to stay.

"We have invested in this region because we have realised that there is a future for ICTs and thus we want to provide quality services to our customers. All along we have been operating everything from Harare but now we want to incorporate our customers from the region," he said.

Chabururuka said they are glad as a company to be following objectives provided in the Zim Asset, of infrastructure development to promote new innovations to benefit the nation as a whole.

"We are being guided by provisions in the Zim Asset as we fall under the infrastructure and the utilities cluster which focuses on infrastructure development and rehabilitation to promote innovativeness," said Chabururuka.

He said there is potential for the Matabeleland market to grow thus they are taking the opportunity to invest in the province.
