Chinese businessmen from two companies, Jiuquan Iron and Steel Group and Jinchuan Company have met with Vice President, John Landa Nkomo in a gesture aimed at cementing economic ties between the two countries.

The 23 member Chinese business delegation being led by the board chairman of the two companies from Gansu province, Mr. Yu Haiyan was accompanied by the Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr. Xin Shunkang.

The group held a closed door meeting with Vice President Nkomo at Munhumutapa buildings in Harare.

Sources close to the meeting revealed that the delegation and Nkomo deliberated on ways to further strengthen economic co-operation between the two friendly nations.

Bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and China are set to grow further, with China so far having availed more than US$300 million to Zimbabwe in direct assistance over the past three years in addition to undertaking numerous construction projects.

Beijing has also stood solidly behind Zimbabwe during attempts by Britain and the United States to have Zimbabwe on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council.
