Russian company developing a platinum mine in Zimbabwe

RUSSIAN company, Rushchrome Mining Private Limited is set to be the newest entry in platinum mining after it indicated that it is keen to set up a pilot open pit mine in Darwendale.
The mining company is already in the process of carrying out an Environmental Impact and Assessment Plan that will see the establishment of platinum pilot open pit mine in Darwendale.
"Rushchrome is in the process of developing a platinum pilot open pit mine," said the company in a statement issued on Monday.
The project situated within the Hartley sub-chamber of the Great Dyke involves drilling, blasting and material handling on a area approximately one acre with a length of 3,1km.
The Zimbabwean Government is also interested in drawing Russian investment into the mining, chemical and construction industries, as well as the energy sector.
Russian Presidential Envoy for Africa Mikhail Margelov who was on a working trip to African countries, visited Zimbabwe between June 3 and 5 this year.
Zimbabwe has a special policy regime for platinum, which Government has said has the potential to trigger the revival of the country's economy.
The country has the second largest platinum deposits in the world after South Africa.
Over the past couple of years, Central African Mining & Exploration Company (CAMEC) has been one of the companies that has shown interest in platinum mining development.
Through Todal Mining, CAMEC has the 4 500-hectare of platinum mining claims, located within the Selukwe sub-chamber on the southern extent of the Great Dyke.
PGM and chrome mining company Kameni Ltd last year indications to raise funds to fund its exploration and development programmes in South Africa and Zimbabwe.
South African mining group, African Rainbow Minerals and Brazilian resources giant Companhia Vale do Rio Doce are considering significant investments in Zimbabwe.
Foreign investors have continued to show interests in investing in Zimbabwe's platinum mining - buoyed by the abundance of the resource and the spectacular performance of existing companies.
