Telecel executive expected in Zimbabwe this week

A Telecel International delegation is expected in Zimbabwe this week to discuss plans to off-load its local unit sources said.

This comes amid a crises around Telecel Zimbabwe's licence, which has always been dependent on the localisation of the company, and an influential telecoms finance website has confirmed that there is foreign interest in the company.

As such, sources say several bidders who have already expressed interest in the company among them Airtel of India, Metallon boss Mzi Khumalo-backed by MTN, and Unitel which is said to be advised by Barclays.

Last year VimpelCom, the owner of Telecel International parent Orascom Telecom- announced plans to divest from its telecoms assets.
