A former senior civil servant, banker, economist and business executive, Mr Elisha Mushayakarara, who succumbed to cancer of the colon, has been buried at Greendale cemetery in Harare this Thursday afternoon.
Friends, relatives and colleagues converged at the Greendale cemetery to pay their last respects to the late business executive.
A colleague and RBZ Governor, Dr John Mangudya described him as a knowledgeable and experienced finance person who assisted a lot of people in the banking sector.
"The financial sector has lost an experienced cadre who had a clean record. He will be greatly missed and may his soul rest in peace, said Dr Mangudya.
The late Mushayakarara's widow, Thandiwe said the family has lost a pillar of hope, loving and hard working father.
"I can't stomach the loss of my husband. He was a wonderful man, I worked in the banking sector and he would help me too. I will miss him," she said.
Minister of State for Harare Province, Cde Miriam Chikukwa said the state assisted funeral granted to Mr Mushayakarara is befitting considering the good work he did in the financial sector.
"State assisted funeral is given to people who have worked hard for the nation it is befitting that Mushayakarara be given such an honour," said Cde Chikukwa.
Mushayakarara was Zimbabwe's first Secretary for Finance at independence in 1980 and was part of a 1966 Commonwealth Initiative that sought to prepare black Rhodesians to run the country.
At the time of his death he had retired from ZB Financial Holdings after serving as Group CEO for 20 years.
He is survived by his widow, Thandiwe, three children and three grandchildren.
