The planned shutdown of TELECEL Zimbabwe has sent panic waves among its subscribers who are left in a quandary.

On Wednesday, government announced that Cabinet has approved recommendations to shut-down the country's second largest mobile operator.

Scores of subscriber's took to the social media to vent the anger while some expressed delight.

Givemore Chipere commented on his Facebook page "I am surprised to hear that our government has actually 'closed' Telecel. I thought companies were closing themselves down,'.

Valentine Maponga  wrote "Can someone please tell me what's going on at Telecel??? #tellsomeone'.

Former Sunday Editor  Brezhnez Malaba  twitted  saying "greedy chaps who've destroyed Telecel r a bad advert 4 indigenisation. They've been riding on political capital 4rm day one & zero biz acumen".

Oldschoolvalues @Oldschoolvalue1 asked "So is @Telecel_Zim operating or not?" and @Telecel_Zim responded @Oldschoolvalue1 Sorry, not authorised to comment on that, but if you need assistance with your line/Telecel service I will gladly assist".

Machakachaka  said "The law is the law. Subscribers were warned through media reports that Telecel did not have a licence. If one needs a licence to listen to the ZBC rubbish, why should Telecel just operate without a licence? They should be switched off, and sell their infrastructure and subscribers to the other two networks that comply with the law. That way jobs will be saved,".

Citizen said "When did econet borrow from the government. it was about time to level the playing field because Potraz was always there to shield Telecel, a foreign owned company, and was harsh on Econet, a locally owned company,".

The closure of  Telecel Zimbabwe will also have an effect on its mobile money transfer service, Telecash, which allows subscribers to use mobile phones to send money to anyone on any network, pay bills and pay for groceries and other goods and services.
