Six foreign firms have expressed interest in partnering the national airline, Air Zimbabwe as government intensifies the hunt for a technical partner for the parastatal.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, which was given a month to compile a list of possible technical partners and the criteria for engagement by cabinet, says it is pleased with the  interest being shown by potential technical partners for Air Zimbabwe.

Minister Obert Mpofu said six serious investors have expressed interest in partnering the strategic state-owned-enterprise which is currently implementing a turnaround strategy.

With most potential partners having in the past raised concern on Air Zimbabwe's balance sheet, government committed itself to deal with the parastatal's legacy issues before taking on board a technical partner.

Market analysts say the airline stands to benefit more from partnerships with regional and international airlines through increased capacity.

Among some of the successful alliances in recent years include Seychelles-Etihad Airways partnership and Kenya Airways and KML deal.
