Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Obert Mpofu who has been dragged to the Labour Court by former employees he ditched when he closed the Zimbabwe Mail Newspaper has reportedly pleaded with the courts to postpone the case to a further date amid concerns by the former employees who say the delay in paying them has negatively affected their lives.
Zimbabwe Union of Journalists posted on social media that Minister Mpofu pleaded for more time in wages dispute case.
"Mpofu whose newspaper collapsed early this year amid reports he had failed to pay workers for five months, asked the Labor Court for more time Wednesday before the matter is heard," noted ZUJ in a Facebook post.
More than 40 former Zimbabwe Mail workers, including about 20 journalists, have dragged Mpofu to court over outstanding salaries reportedly totaling more than $200 000.
"Journalists who attended the hearing said Mpofu, represented by board members Tendai Munyoro and another identified as Mthombeni and salaries clerk Sicelukwazi "pleaded for the postponement of the case," reported ZUJ.
