Cimas Medical Aid Society has opened a new clinic at High Glen Shopping Centre in Harare's Budiriro suburb. It expects to open another one in Kwekwe along 2nd Avenue before the end of the month.
The High Glen Clinic opened on Monday. The Kwekwe Clinic is expected to open once its pharmacy licence has been issued by the Regulatory Authority.
This brings to nine the number of clinics that Cimas operates around the country, as the society endeavours to improve its members' access to affordable health services.
Towards the end of last year it opened a new clinic in Harare, at the corner of Fourth Street and Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, which is open 24 hours a day. Although it is open 24 hours a day, it is not, however, an emergency centre. Emergencies are referred to medical institutions that provide emergency services.
"The decision to open the clinic at High Glen Shopping Centre was influenced by the need to bring our services closer to our customers on that side of town," commented Cimas Healthcare Services managing director Zvita Rosemary Mutambirwa.
"The move will also help to decongest our clinics in the city, which at the moment are struggling to cope with the volume of patients.
"Prior to the opening of the High Glen Clinic our members had to travel all the way to the city centre to access a Cimas clinic.
"Likewise, the decision to open a clinic in Kwekwe was prompted by the need to increase members' access to our services," she said.
The services provided at the two clinics include doctor consultation, nurse counselling and the dispensing of drugs. The clinics have their own in-house pharmacy from which patients can access the medicines prescribed for them at the clinic.
Treatment is available to all Cimas Medical Aid Society members no matter what package they are on and to members of any other medical aid society who have a valid membership card, as well as to cash patients.
Cimas has plans to open two more new clinics, one in Masvingo and the other in Victoria Falls, early next year. A dental clinic in Milton Park, in Harare, is expected to be open in September this year.
