A new airline is set to start operating next month, a development expected to inject confidence in the local aviation industry.
Rainbow Airlines this Tuesday held a demonstration flight from the Harare International Airport and will ply the Johannesburg-Harare route twice daily on weekdays, commencing on the 26th of August.
"This is a wake up call for Zimbabweans and other investors not to shy away from the country," said CEO Frank Humbe.
"There has been an outcry that our domestic routes are not being catered for. However, in the future we want to service local routes.
"We feel that our entry will also provide impetus to those that want to invest in Zimbabwe's aviation industry that opportunities are available."
The airline is renting a South African Boeing 737 with a carrying capacity of 300 passengers
Despite the local aviation industry's potential, problems continue to affect its growth and foreign airlines are enjoying a bigger market share.
