Alpha Media Holding has begun implementing the condemned Supreme Court ruling as News Day sports editor Wellington Toni has been shown the door.
Sources at NewsDay said Toni was handed his dismissal letter at lunch time.
He did not return to his desk after lunch.
"There is state of panic at AMH. Toni was given his letter at lunch time. It's about the Supreme Court ruling," said an insider.
AMH is taking advantage of the recent Supreme Court ruling that allows employers to give three months' notice before termination of contracts.
Last week chairman Trevor Ncube addressed workers and hinted that he will not hesitate to effect the ruling.
Last week Daily News sacked 11 editorial staff.
