Sable Chemicals yesterday said plans were underway to improve production levels through repairs of one of its acid plants which had been idle for two years.

Sables acting chief executive officer Allen Manhanga said repairs would help them meet the country's fertilizer demand.

The company is currently operating at 40% production levels and had been struggling to supply adequate ammonium nitrate fertilizer to farmers.

At the beginning of the year, Sable Chemicals had 410 employees. They employed a further 115 workers in a quest to increase production levels.

The company also repaired some of the redundant electrolysis units which had been down since 2009.
