Air Zimbabwe is set to remain grounded for longer after the ailing airline's chief executive said Friday the state airliner is yet to get money for salaries. Pilots who have been on strike since July have said they will only return to work once Air Zimbabwe paid them their dues.

The strike has already paralysed Air Zimbabwe, which has been forced to abandon several key routes. Innocent Mavhunga, the Air Zimbabwe acting chief executive, said the situation was so bad that he was unaware of when the money would be available.

Meanwhile, an internal audit report at Air Zimbabwe has raised concern over operational matters that demand urgent attention, as the stage is set for a restructuring exercise. The report is likely to see a major board and management shake-up as the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development is already working on the restructuring. New executives are set to be incorporated into the State-owned enterprise with a view to rescuing the sinking institution, which was once voted the best in Africa a decade ago.
