Cimas Medical Aid Society has opened a dental clinic in Harare's Milton Park suburb. It is the first such clinic to be opened by Cimas, which operates nine primary healthcare clinics in different parts of the country and the Harare Haemodialysis Centre.

The dental clinic was opened on October 26 in response to requests from Cimas members who are on the Cimas General, Private Hospital and Medexec packages, which include dental treatment in a private clinic as a benefit, according to Cimas Healthcare Services managing director Zvita Rosemary Mutambirwa.

The dental and oral hygiene services offered at the dental clinic include teeth scaling, fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, extractions and root canal treatment.

"The dental clinic was opened in response to requests from our members who were being asked to pay shortfalls whenever they visit the dentist," Mrs Mutambirwa said.

"Now this facility will give them access to quality and affordable treatment without incurring any shortfalls."
She added that, although the clinic had been established primarily to provide members on the Cimas General, Private Hospital and Medexec packages with affordable dental treatment, the clinic is open to anyone requiring dental treatment.

That includes those belonging to other medical aid societies, subject to an agreement with their medical aid society, and those who pay cash.

Recently, Health and Childcare Minister David Parirenyatwa expressed his appreciation of the role being played by Cimas healthcare clinics and urged it to establish more.

Speaking at the Cimas 70th Anniversary Health Expo at Belgravia Sports Club in Harare in October, Dr Parirenyatwa said Cimas had helped relieve pressure on the public health sector by opening primary health clinics in different parts of the country.

He noted that Cimas was operating nine such clinics, four of which were in Harare with the rest in Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutare, Kwekwe and Chitungwiza.

"We want to see more of those clinics," he said.
