AMH pays workers October half-salaries

ALPHA Media Holdings (AMH) which gave workers food coupons and $50 advance in December has silently deposited October salaries.
However, it's just half pay Bulawayo24.com has learnt.
Fuming workers, who are on a go-slow said they only saw bank notifications during lunch time.
Human Resource department has not sent internal memo notifying on salary deposits.
"At lunch time I got as bank notification of the salary deposit, it's just an insult" said a worker.
"Trevor Ncube (AMH chairman) has simple lost the game. His management never bothered to brief us on financial challenges,'
Added another: "The half salary is not enough. As for me it has already been deducted by the bank as part of loan repayment.
"How am i expected to come to work and give it my all? Impossible. Most workers in all departs are on a go-slow,".
AHM has not paid workers October, November and December salaries.
The media house is now wavering a bankruptcy tag.
To appease its workers, the media house handed each worker $50 and $100 voucher days before Christmas.
The Mail & Guardian is Newsday's sister newspaper in South Africa and there are two other papers in the group - The Independent, which publishes on Fridays in Zimbabwe, and Sunday paper The Standard, also in Zimbabwe.
Appearing before the Retrenchment Board in Harare last year AMH managing director Vincent Kahiya said since January 2014, the company had been struggling and unable to generate meaningful revenue from sales and advertising.
He said the company was in a "perpetual" loss-making position and it had been unable to pay employees full monthly salaries on time since January 2014.
The group used to cover 75% of the workers' medical aid but reduced that to 50% while allowances such as transport, housing and education are now considered a luxury and have been scrapped.
Salaries for managers were chopped which include paying fees for their children and DStv subscriptions.
