Telecel Zimbabwe has announced that it is in the process of upgrading its data network in order to improve the quality of its coverage and allow the mobile company to offer its customers more products and services.
The data upgrade project is already commenced and will see enhancements being carried out in Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, Gweru, Chinhoyi, Karoi and Masvingo. The upgrades which have already been started in Harare are expected to allow the mobile company to introduce exciting new products along with an improved data experience.
The network optimisation, which is being conducted in partnership with its network equipment suppliers, will replace low capacity base stations with high capacity ones. Already sites for half of Harare have been replaced in the massive on-going project. The project is expected to be completed for all the targeted areas by end of May this year.
Telecel Zimbabwe Communications and Branding Director, Obert Mandimika said the data network upgrade will allow Telecel to introduce more innovative products into the market.
"We have responded to the increased popularity and consumption of data services by our customers through a national network upgrade which will markedly improve the quality of data coverage," said Mandimika. Mr Mandimika added that the on-going data upgrade has given the company flexibility to introduce more products and services for its subscribers.
Taking advantage of the improved data service quality, the company also announced a new SMS, voice and social media bundle, with the different services all rolled into one convenient bundle, called Mega Chat which was made possible by the network enhancements. The bundle bears the same hallmark value like its popular Mega Bonus.
"This data upgrade project allows us to offer our subscribers even more value-for-money services and promotions. I am happy to announce that our customers can now access voice, SMS and social media services more affordably under our new Mega Chat bundle," said Mr Mandimika.
This latest bundle from Telecel is for prepaid subscribers and offers on-net and off-net voice minutes, Whatsapp, Twitter, Facebook and SMS depending on the value of the bundle purchased.
The Mega Chat bundle comes in five different price points, 50 cents, $1, $2, $5 and $10. The bundles have different validity periods ranging from 24 hours for the 50 cent bundle all the way up to 30 days for the $5 and $10 Mega Chat bundles.
The Mega Chat bundle can be accessed by dialling *480# or sending the letter ‘M' to 33480.
"The Mega Chat bundle is a response to the increased popularity of bundles and data services. We hope our customers will take advantage of this exciting new bundle as well as our improved data service as it is the first of its kind here," said Mandimika.
