The National Railways of Zimbabwe has availed additional passenger coaches to the existing passenger trains to cater for increased holiday travellers during Easter.

In a statement, it said since the school closure coincides with the onset of the Easter holiday when there is an upsurge of travel needs by the public and school children as well as holiday makers, it has noted that travellers get stranded at bus termini, and to alleviate their plight the NRZ will boost the carrying capacity of existing passenger train services.

Meanwhile, the Bulawayo - Francistown passenger train will be temporarily suspended from Friday 25 March 2016 to Tuesday 29 March 2016 and will resume on Friday 1 April 2016.

It is also pertinent to mention that the Bulawayo to Victoria Falls and Victoria Falls to Bulawayo passenger trains are daily services that are meant to cater for many travellers that visit the holiday resort town, particularly tourists who enjoy travelling by train along that section of the railway network, due to its proximity to the Hwange Game Park and other scenic views dotted along the railway line.

Furthermore, there are also passenger trains that traverse between Bulawayo - Harare, Harare - Mutare, Bulawayo - Chiredzi, Gweru - Masvingo,Harare - Bindura and Harare - Chinhoyi railway routes.  Intending travellers can contact the nearest railway station for further details concerning the aforementioned services.

The NRZ is geared to ferry holiday travellers during this time of the year and would like to appeal to its valued customers to book and buy tickets on time in order to avoid inconveniences.

Opting for rail services will save travellers from falling prey to unscrupulous transporters who hike their fares willy-nilly at such times as the holiday, when people will be desperate for alternative and affordable transport.

The NRZ is also appealing to the general public to report people seen tampering with railway equipment as well as throwing stones at moving trains to the nearest NRZ Security Offices or ZRP.
