Twelve National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) engine-men have been fired for allegedly absconding work for seven straight days.
The affected are part of hundreds who are on a crippling two month strike.
On Thursday, Association of Railway Enginemen Acting President Janiel Manyere was also kicked out on a similar charge, insiders said.
"These are all Enginemen and mostly members of the National Striking Committee in Gweru.
"Some of the sacked include a Mapfumo, Sinyaruwa Manyundwa, Phiri F, Sango Gwangwara, Chipamaunga, Gangata, Mutikani Shadreck.
The General Secretary Meshack Shaderack was also fired," said a source.
In May, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Joram Gumbo revealed that about 70 % of workers would be fired soon.
Gumbo said business environment has been harsh, hence urgent need to retrench.
