Government has called on beneficiaries of the indigenisation and economic empowerment initiative to fully embrace it to spearhead national development.
Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment Minister, Saviour Kasukuwere made these remarks at the official launch of the Meikles Limited Staff Share Trust and Youth Revolving Out-growers Scheme which will see employees owning 20% of the company.
He underscored the importance of the national empowerment drive, saying it is a broad based programme as evidenced by the gesture taken by Meikles Limited to award its employees shares.
He urged the Meikles employees to improve their work ethics by increasing productivity and challenged them to have a sense of ownership and control.
The Meikles Limited Staff Ownership Trust has seen the company ceding 24 million shares to 5 000 employees in the group of companies, whilst the Youth Revolving Fund is a US$200 000 fund meant for funding horticultural projects for youth in and around Harare.
